New artistic Heysham chippy opens

ART and chips may sound a strange mixture but that is exactly what is on offer at a newly opened Heysham chippy.

Tarnbrook Chippy on the Kingsway estate in Heysham, has one large wall covered in a vibrant mural depicting Heysham's beach and shoreline, painted by local artist Chas Jacobs.

Tarnbrook Chippy, formerly Tarnbrook Fisheries, is owned by local couple John and Hilary Wild who are probably better known for having run the Packet Bridge Fish and Chip Shop at Bolton-le-Sands which they sold in 2008.

"We were looking for a focal point to set the shop off and that locals could identify and relate to, so we hit on the idea of a large wall of colour," said John.

"It didn't take me long to get on the telephone to my old mate Chas Jacobs and ask him if he could supply something suitable and this is what he came up with!" Rather than Chas actually painting the mural onto the wall, John got in touch with Michelle and Kris Holt who own Printed Space.Com on White Lund.

They scanned the painting and turned it into wallpaper which has a vinyl finish.

Once they had produced this they were able to cover the whole wall at the shop.

Chas said: "I'm pleased I was able to help John out as the mural is becoming a talking point in the area."
