The house on Russell Drive in Torrisholme has for the last five years been left to go to rack and ruin according to neighbours, and they say rats, mice, foxes and even squirrels are congregating to feed on festering food andrubbish left in the front and back gardens.

The stench emanating from the property has become intolerable during the recent hot weather, claim neighbours.

One neighbour, who does not wish to be named, said: “Enough is enough. The house has now deteriorated to being virtually a slum.

“All the neighbours are all in dismay about the situation and have seen vermin emerging from the occupant’s property which has been logged by environmental health.

“Environmental health have tried to assist the resident to resolve the problems, who despite offers, refuses help.

“The house is not fit for human habitation.

“Everyone is at the end of their tether.

Another neighbour said: “A lick of paint would make it look better.

“Everyone is absolutely sick of it, it smells, it’s not nice to look at, it’s dirty and disgusting.

“It’s bringing down the house prices in the area.”

Another neighbour said: “Four or five weeks ago, I saw rats in the road outside the house. I don’t have a problem with the way a person lives, but I have children and when there are rodents I do have a concern.”

A spokesman for Lancaster City Council said: “We can confirm we have received a complaint in relation to a property on Russell Drive.

Investigations are currently ongoing.”

The Visitor tried to contact the owner of the property but she was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
