“We have had a team of 12 people working on site at any one time with 60 per cent coming from the local community - one of the joiners even lived in the next street!

“We have also employed two Calico apprentices - one joiner and one plasterer - which is helping to develop young people’s skills in the local community.”

Each home has been fitted with new doors and windows, kitchens and bathrooms, joinery, carpets, electrics, boiler and then decorated, all completed to energy efficiency and industry standards.

“One lady didn’t want anything done when we first arrived. When she saw what we had done to the other houses, she decided she would. We have just finished her home and she is ‘Happy as Larry’.”

Another resident said: “I just wanted to say how much I love my house. Leon and his team have done a fantastic job. I can’t thank Leon enough, he is an absolute superstar, always making time to speak. The house really is beautiful.”

Residents received welcome packs from Evolution on completion of the homes, including a card and store vouchers to help with the cost of living.
