Last week I was pleased to welcome Matt Hancock MP, Minister for Business and Enterprise, to visit the area as part of national apprentice week.
Matt visited electronics recycling company SHP to meet the apprentices currently employed in the warehouse. Matt was particularly interested in the business SHP do as he is also Minister of State for energy and oversees the WEEE electronics recycling directive. Matt had a chat with Craig Smith and Ken Parker about how the WEEE legislation has helped their business.
On Saturday I attended the official opening of the Temperance Club Barbers in Morecambe, and officially opened it by cutting the ribbon
For the second part of the visit I took Matt to Princes Crescent in Bare to speak to the businesses about what they felt the Government could do to help. Matt visited GF Property Sales and Lady Butterfly to talk about how changes to PAYE had allowed them to put more money into their business.
Matt also visited Jamie at the Wineyard and Deli, and tasted some local beer from the Cross Bay Brewery.
As it was Mother’s Day on Sunday Matt’s last stop was Abi’s arrangements, florist.
Abi was open late to meet the Mother’s Day rush for flowers, and was able to tell Matt about how she prepares flowers for weddings, as she is the only wedding specialist in the area.
On Saturday I attended the official opening of the Temperance Club Barbers in Morecambe, and officially opened it by cutting the ribbon. Graham Cass has done a fantastic job restoring the building to it’s former glory and the apartments that have been created upstairs are brilliant. I am always pleased to support new businesses opening in my constituency especially if they have regenerated an old building in the area.
On March 26 I will be putting on a concert at the Winter Gardens to raise money for the heating in the building. Bernie Marsden, who used to be in Whitesnake, will be performing with a band of special guests. Tickets are £20 and can be bought from Morecambe Visitors Information Centre 01524 582808.
If you would like to contact me you can do so by email David.firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone 01524 841225.
