Famous movie director Sir Ridley Scott has been shooting scenes for a new film at Lancaster Castle.

The family comedy called ‘Get Santa’, stars The Borrowers and Harry Potter actor Jim Broadbent as Father Christmas, who gets locked up in C-wing of the castle prison.

The film also features Willow and Life’s Too Short star Warwick Davis. Most of the crew were put up in Lancaster’s hotels and were spotted out and about in the city. They also took over the castle’s NICE bar as a temporary mini office. Scenes were filmed at the castle over the period of a week.

The film, set in ‘Lambeth Prison’, begins when nine-year-old Tom, played by newcomer Kit Connor, discovers Santa (Broadbent) in the garden shed just days before Christmas.

Escaping the wreckage of his sleigh and desperate to return to Lapland, Santa has come to ask Tom and his dad Steve (Rafa Spall) for help.

But Steve has just been released from prison and he just wants to stay out of trouble and spend time with his son.

Only after Santa is arrested – for trying to liberate his reindeer from Battersea Dogs Home – can Tom persuade Steve to carry out Santa’s plan.

While Santa adjusts to life on the inside, Steve and Tom are on the run with the clock ticking, on a desperate quest to save Christmas. The film has been written and directed by Christopher Smith and produced by Scott’s production company Scott Free London. Sir Ridley is famous for films like Bladerunner, Alien, Thelma and Louise, and Gladiator.
