Morecambe woman goes marathon mad for charity

A Morecambe woman is going marathon mad this year to help her partner's grandad.

Ever since Natalie Coates, from Westgate, entered her first run last year she has been determined to carry on, not just to lose weight but to help others.

The 24-year-old is training to run the Great Manchester Run in May for the second time, as well as applying for the Great North Run in September.

Natalie wants to raise money for local charity, Morecambe Bay Renal Association, which helps people who have kidney failire problems by funding their families accommodation when they go for transplants.

Natalie, who works at Burch Tree Vets, said: “My partner’s grandad, Paddy, suffers from renal problems and has to have dialysis a few times a week and he is in his 80s. Not only does he do this, he helps run the charity by fundraising and being a trustee member.

“The charity helps fund the people who have had the transplant by paying towards their wages, as some workplaces do not pay sick pay for the length of time they need.”

Natalie raised £300 for Animal Care last year and hopes to beat her time this year. Morecambe Bay Renal Patients Association has been running for ten years
