A school performance of a smash hit musical has sold out three nights running and earned standing ovations.
Morecambe Community High School’s performance of ‘Chicago’ was hailed by head John McNaughton as the best school show he’d seen in 37 years of teaching.
Mr McNaughton said tickets were in such demand the school could have added more dates. He also joked the show was so good he could have “taken it to Broadway!”
Famed for the film version starring Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere, Chicago tells the story of Roxy Hart, who is imprisoned for killing her lover in 1920s Chicago.
The Morecambe High version starred Molly Wilson as Roxy, Talia Riding as Velma Kelly, Owen Lambert as Billy Flynn, Amy Lawton as Mama Morton, Keyra Cowx as Mary Sunshine and Kieran Robson as Amos Hart.
Mr McNaughton, who will retire as head at the end of this school year, praised all students, teachers and parents who were involved in the production.
We will have a full review and photos in next week’s Visitor.
