Morecambe’s brown signs could be replaced at last

SHODDY brown road signs pointing the way to Morecambe are on the verge of finally being changed.

Plans are on the table for Lancaster City Council to put money towards replacements to three brown tourism signs at junction 35 of the M6 at Carnforth.

Campaigners have lambasted the existing signs for years because they only promote the beach and the visitor information centre. They want the signs to advertise some of the town’s other attractions.

The council will discuss whether to allocate £5,000 to part-fund replacement of these signs at a meeting on February 29.

A council spokeswoman said any replacement signs would “better reflect the attractions of Morecambe and the surrounding area” and that the city council was working with Lancashire County Council to find the rest of the cash.
