The reigning champion of a prestigious UK pub poker competition has missed out on retaining his title in Las Vegas.

Gareth Tomlinson, 35, from Morecambe, battled through to the final table of 10 in the Redtooth Poker Vegas 100 Final but could not match the performance of winner Gordon Cuthill from Scotland.

The Scot took the crown and the £10,000 top prize which includes a £5,000 sponsorship deal.

As winner of the 2014 event Gareth had the privilege of defending his title against 99 players from across the UK during a week-long trip to Las Vegas.

In its ninth year, Redtooth Poker is the UK’s largest live pub poker league with more than 1,000 venues. More than 180,000 players have registered with the event since it was launched.

Gareth competes in the Redtooth Poker league at the Trimpell Sports and Social Club on Out Moss Lane.

He said: “The standard was definitely higher this year. I was delighted to make the final then. Going from playing poker in a pub to competing in Las Vegas has been surreal.”
