Morecambe man charged with attempted murders found dead

A man facing a series of charges following a catalogue of incidents at a Heysham caravan park has been found dead in prison.

William O’Mara, 45, of Norland Drive, Morecambe, was found in his cell in the early hours of Thursday at HMP Preston where he had been remanded.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “William O’Mara, who was on remand at HMP Preston, was found unresponsive in his cell at about 3.20am on Thursday October 2.

Paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

“As with all deaths in custody, the Independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation.”

After sustaining serious injuries when he was struck by a car at Ocean Edge Caravan Park on Saturday September 20, Paul Clark, 42, from Heysham, lost his battle for life at Royal Preston Hospital on Saturday September 27.

O’Mara was due to appear at Preston Crown Court on Monday October 6 facing three charges of attempted murder on Kevin McNulty, Joshua McNulty and Kevin Elliston, a section 18 wounding with intent on Sara O’Mara, a section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent on Andra Bowden and Virginijus Oras, an assault on PC Topping and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
