Crews were responding to requests via police and HM Coastguard after a dark coat was discovered on the Stone Jetty.

Morecambe’s RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew launched to support local coastguards by searching for a possible missing person at 12.30pm today (Monday April 16).

The inshore lifeboat and inshore rescue hovercraft were both launched; the lifeboat conducting a shoreline search from Heysham to the Stone Jetty and the hovercraft searching the shore from the Stone Jetty to the River Keer, near Carnforth.

Both searches were completed without result and, satisfied that there was nothing further they could do, HM Coastguard called off the search and both craft returned to station.

The crew had also been called out at 11.15am the day before, on Sunday April 15, in response to reports that a woman was cut off by the tide on the River Lune in Lancaster, but they were stood down, shortly after assembling, when it was confirmed that the woman was safely ashore.
