Morecambe families face Easter headaches due to school holiday clash

Families with children at more than one school in our district could face an Easter nightmare.

Parents are facing a holiday and child care nightmare next Easter due to a school term time shake-up.

Families who have children at different schools in the area may be unable to book a family holiday because Easter term times won’t be the same across the district in 2016.

Morecambe High and many of the town’s primary schools - including Great Wood, Morecambe Bay, Sandylands, West End, Grosvenor Park, Lancaster Road, St Mary’s, Poulton-le-Sands, St Peter’s, Westgate and Torrisholme - will break up for Easter on April 8 2016 and return on April 25.

But Heysham High finishes for Easter on March 23 with students returning on April 11.

Ripley, both Lancaster grammar schools, Carnforth High, Our Lady’s, St Patrick’s, Bolton-le-Sands and St Luke’s in Slyne-with-Hest also have similar Easter breaks to Heysham High.

Next year the Easter weekend itself falls on March 25-28.

A parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “Usually all the local schools have the same weeks off at Easter.

“Families with parents who work and with, say, one child at Heysham High and another at a primary school in Morecambe will have the nightmare of trying to get childcare for a fortnight for one of their kids – or will not be able to book a family holiday without taking one child out of school on unauthorised leave.”

See the Lancashire County Council website HERE for a full list of local school term times for 2016.
