The team were called out to the lady in Sunderland Point who was having breathing difficulties in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, April 9).

The ambulance was unable to reach the woman due to the current high spring tide that had flooded the road.

Two of the team waded down the road and set up a helicopter landing site.

The coastguard helicopter could then land providing emergency medical care.

The North West Ambulance Service was then escorted to the scene once the water was at a safe level, taking over the care of the woman.

The coastguard later learned the lady had been suffering from severe food poisoning.

Be aware of more high tides over the next few days.

Remember if in danger in or around the coast call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
