THE new big-budget Hollywood version of Les Miserables stars Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman...and Morecambe’s very own stunt man dressed as a slave!
Tough guy Martin Shenton appears as a stunt performer in the new blockbuster, and recently shot scenes pulling ropes on a ship at Portsmouth docks.
There, the resort danger man rubbed shoulders with Gladiators star Crowe and X-Men A-lister Jackman.
“Hugh was all ‘bearded-up’, so I didn’t have a clue who he was,” said Martin.
“But he was a great guy.”
Les Miserables, an adaptation of the renowned play by Victor Hugo, also stars Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway. The movie is slated for release in December.
Shenton has previously done stunt work in Coronation Street and Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies.
Recently, he was stunt co-ordinator for the new Olympic-themed TV advert for health food suppliers Nature Valley.
Martin’s wife Louise, and Helen Dickinson and Jamie Hutchinson, employees at his Regent Park Studios extreme sports facility, were also part of the crew for the Nature Valley shoot.
Martin and Jamie, better known locally as pro wrestling champion “Johnny Phere”, have also filmed scenes for a major television programme.
