A YOUNG mum who has given birth to a miracle baby has been inspired to mount a huge fund-raising campaign in aid of the Royal Lancaster Infirmary’s neo natal unit.

Little Angel Bailey was no bigger than the palm of her mum’s hand when she was born 13 weeks premature.

She weighed 2lbs 4oz when she was born on Good Friday and dropped down to just 2lbs 1oz in the first few days of her life.

Angel’s mum Vikki Bailey said: “She was really tiny when she was born and she had to be in hospital for three-and-a-half months. Her hand was the size of my fingernail. Everyone who saw her cried.

“The hospitals have had a lot of bad press recently but the nurses were absolutely fantastic when Angel was born. I want to show that its not all bad. I want to give something back.”

Vikki, who lives on Westgate with her husband John, Angel and two other children, Kyle, 15 and Kaisha, 10, hopes to raise money for equipment, bedding, toys and other items.

Angel, who was nearly born at 26 weeks but appeared one week later, is currently suffering from chronic lung disease and is on oxygen 24 hours a day.

Vikki’s main fund-raising event will take place at Smokey O’Connor’s in Morecambe on Saturday, November 19, from 7pm onwards.

Her husband John, a wagon driver, is raffling himself off as an odd job man/cleaner to raise cash. John’s boss at work has also donated £500.

Katie Louise beauticians will be doing a sponsored male leg and chest waxing on the night and Robert Johnson will be shaving all of his head hair and eyebrows off. An auction will be hosted by drag artist by Paul Morton and there will be a raffle with fabulous prizes.

Vicky, who works for Bare Hall Quality Carers, wishes to thank Sean O’Connor from Smokey’s pub for letting the organisers have the room, DJ and karaoke for free.
