Charlie Simpson.

Charlie Simpson has had an amazing month.

Firstly he married his childhood sweetheart, followed by a luxurious honeymoon.

His second solo album was released and entered the UK top ten and to top it all we dragged him up north for a visit to The Bay studios.

“The honeymoon was amazing,” he told me.

“We went to LA then went to Bora Bora in the South Pacific for the most relaxing time. And then to come home and release the album I’m in such a good place at the moment.”

Charlie Simpson started his career in Busted. The boys recently joined forces with Mcfly to create McBusted and completed a sell-out arena tour. Simpson chose not to re-join the band but holds no ill feelings towards his former band mates. “It feels really weird that people are interested in those songs again.

It feels like an absolute lifetime ago. It was like twelve years ago and so much has happened since then. But I’m really happy for those guys. They are getting to do what they enjoy and I’m really happy with what I’m doing so everyone is having a great time.”

Simpson has also had success in the band Fightstar and then three years ago released his first solo album. He has now released the follow up and is really pleased with it. “I can’t believe it. It’s such a privilege that both of my solo albums have made the top ten. I just grateful to everyone who has gone out and bought it and it’s great to have the support I have from such a wonderful fan base.”

Charlie clearly prefers being a solo artist after years of being in bands. “I think it is what best reflects me as a person. It’s much more introspective. When you are working as a band it’s a lot more collaborative but my solo stuff is the real me.”

Charlie’s album ‘Long Road Home’ is an album of personal songs which are guitar based and uplifting in places. The album has received many positive reviews. Charlie said “I’m overwhelmed by the reaction. I can’t wait to get out there and perform these songs live. The whole album has a real feel good vibe. I’m really pleased with the harmonies and I was going for a 70s Fleetwood Mac sound and I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.”

His new album ‘Long Road Home’ is out now.
