My old mate Steve Middlesbrough popped in last week to drop off the Morecambe Live 2014 souvenir magazine.

Once again, Steve has had his funding cut from our council, who actually have a rainy day surplus left over from last year. He is running at a loss already after producing the magazine – I just wonder if our some of our councillors are interested in the fortunes of the town.

The events that have already been staged, and those that are to come have gone ahead thanks to local businesses getting involved. Granted the Platform did play a part in the Carnival Day celebrations but it’s the local venues once again helping out.

The Midland, Vale of Lune and we at the York are opening our doors to the various festivals that unfortunately are a luke warm version of those previous. (Smokey’s have already hosted Country Kickback)

The next event is the Blueswater Festival with Phoenix Down and Guy Morris and The Imperials appearing in the York on Friday, June 27.

The following night it’s over to the Vale of Lune for three more bands including the Section.

On July 6 from twelve noon until five it’s Morecambe Jazz with the LRGS Big Band and Bill Roberts and Friends. Keep an eye out for Northern and Classic Soul Nights in the rotunda Bar throughout the summer.

Motown Magic comes to the York Hotel again on Friday, August 8 and the following night it’s Northern soul Floorshakers at the Vale.

The summer entertainment ends with the Morecambe Live Weekender but at the time of writing Steve can’t confirm anything.

He just doesn’t have the venue or funding sorted for that event yet.

What we actually need now is for people to come out and support events like these.

Some great music events do need the support of our townsfolk – do something great yourselves this summer – come and watch them.
