Strong westerly winds will hit many northern and central parts of the UK with disruption to transport and power supplies possibly occurring.

There is also a risk of structural damage.

Large waves may lead to dangerous conditions along some coasts, while lightning seems likely to become an additional hazard during the day.

Winds should gradually ease later in the day.

The yellow warning issued means members of the public should be aware of severe weather, which could include rain, snow, wind, fog and ice.
