A man had to be rescued after he became stuck in sand off a Morecambe beach.

Firefighters were called to the scene, off Green Street, at around 10.10am.

They said swift water rescue technicians were deployed to rescue the man, using two inflatable walkways.

A spokesman for Liverpool Coastguard said it was contacted by a member of the public, who reported a man stuck up to his knees in mud or soft sand.

He said: “It was near the lifeguard station at Morecambe, around 50 yards out from the shore. He couldn’t move.

“We dispatched coastguard teams from Morecambe, Arnside and Knott End, a hovercraft from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service firefighters.

“I believe the fire brigade deployed their inflatable walkway and were able to extricate the man safe and well. He didn’t need any medical attention.”
