Man rescued after fall into bushes

A man had to be rescued by firefighters after falling three metres down an embankment and injuring his leg.

Police, the fire service and North West Ambulance were called to Station Road in Hest Bank at 6.45am on Friday to search for the man who had fallen in bushes and was trapped between the car park and the railway line.

Firefighters used the cherry picker rescue cage to reach the man and he was transferred to a waiting ambulance.

The man, thought to be in his fifties, was then taken to hospital for treatment.
