Man in court on Heysham murder charge

A man has appeared in court charged with murder and attempted murder after a fatal stabbing at a caravan park.

Gareth Luke Mason, 26, of Westminster Road in Morecambe, was remanded in custody following a brief hearing at Lancaster Magistrates Court.

He will appear again at Preston Crown Court this Thursday (August 8).

The victim, Adam Stirrup, 28, died in Royal Preston Hospital after suffering knife wounds in an attack at Stud Farm Holiday Park in Oxcliffe Road, Heysham.

His partner, Katrina Rudrum, 26, was also found with serious stab wounds to the neck, abdomen and back.

Paramedics were called to the scene at 12.45am on Sunday.

Miss Rudrum was taken to Royal Preston Hospital then transferred to Royal Blackburn Hospital where she was initially in a critical condition.

Her condition later improved and was described as serious but stable.

Mr Stirrup worked as a bus driver for Stagecoach in Lancaster.

Police said that the couple were long-term residents in a static caravan on the site.
