Man dies after bridge plunge

A man who fell from a motorway bridge has died in hospital.

Horrified motorists witnessed the man plunging from the bridge.

One female motorist, who was travelling southbound, said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.” Despite police initially stating that the man had not sustained life-threatening injuries in the incident he died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 20, a day after he fell.

No details have yet been released of the man, but witnesses described him as being in his late 40s and dressed in jeans and a checked shirt when he fell onto the northbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 32 and 33 at Scorton.

The motorway was closed for 90 minutes following the fall while an air ambulance landed and took off.
