A 22-year-old man needed hospital treatment after being punched during a Boxing Day brawl at a Morecambe pub.

Police were called to the William Mitchell pub in Glentworth Road at around 8.30pm on December 26 following reports of a group of 10-15 men fighting.

It is believed one of the group got into a fight with another member of the public, and the incident escalated.

Bar staff tried to intervene during the row, which left one man who tried to intervene with injuries caused by being punched in the face and possibly hit with a glass.

Police are still investigating the incident, and any witnesses should call 101 with information.

Landlady Tricia Ulyatt, who runs the pub with her husband Stephen, said she was grateful for all the support they had received since the fight.

She said: “I want to say thank you to all our regular customers for all their support. I have been sent about 15 bunches of flowers; everyone has been lovely.”

nA man has been charged with violent disorder following the brawl.

Frank Varey, 33, of Clare Road in Lancaster, appeared before Lancaster magistrates on December 31.

The case was adjourned for trial at Preston Crown Court and Varey was remanded in custody. The preliminary hearing will be held at Preston Crown Court on January 29.
