A Morecambe man has been cleared of an accusation that he tried to lure a nine-year-old girl in the street into his car.

Anthony Noble, 65, insisted he had said nothing to the child - but told a jury in evidence that he himself had been verbally abused by youngsters that day.

The defendant, who lives at a caravan park at Middleton Road, had denied a charge of attempting to abduct a child in October 2009.

A jury at Preston Crown Court took a little over thirty minutes to acquit him.

The prosecution alleged that he had asked asked a nine-year-old girl in the Westminster Road area: “Do you want to come in my car? Have it and I’ll pay you some money”.
