A short time after the assault, it is believed that a dark coloured Ford Fusion car was driven through the site security barrier away from the scene of the assault, and then collided with a 42-year-old man near to the entrance of the park.

The man, a 42-year-old from Heysham, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Family Liaison Officers are supporting his family.

At about 7.15pm, a 53-year-old man walking his dog was then struck by what is believed to be the same car at Half Moon Bay. Fortunately he only suffered minor injuries.

Another collision occurred at about 7.30pm where a 36-year-old woman driving a Peugeot 207 was hit by what is thought to be the same Ford Fusion vehicle.
