M6 link road closures are announced

The northbound entry slip road is being closed for nine days from 8pm on Friday July 22 to 6am Monday August 1 to allow construction of the new link road to the Lune West Bridge to take place.

The existing northbound entry slip road will be removed and the new link road to the Lune West Bridge constructed.

The M6 junction 34 southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight Friday and Saturday nights 8pm to 6am July 22 and 23.

Costain Project Manager Richard Helme said: “We have examined various options to enable us to construct the new link to the Lune West Bridge. The differing heights of the existing slip road and the new link road prevent us from maintaining traffic flow through the works. This option is the most robust, ensuring that we can deliver the new northbound access with minimal impact.

“We appreciate the closure will inconvenience a number of people but would ask them to understand, and help us ensure that this element of the works is completed in a safe environment for both the workforce and the travelling public”.

During the closure traffic wishing to use the junction 34 northbound entry slip road will be directed to travel south on the M6 to junction 33 at Galgate, where they will be instructed to re-join the M6 northbound and continue their journey.

Drivers are advised that the southbound exit slip road will also be closed Friday and Saturday night to facilitate removal of the Varioguard temporary vehicle restraint barrier.

At the same time the surfacing of the tie-ins between the existing carriageway and the new off-slip will be completed.

Drivers wishing to exit junction 34 southbound will be directed to junction 33 Galgate where they will be instructed to re-join the M6 north and exit junction 34 northbound.
