M6 link boost for motorway drivers
The new Heysham Link dual carriageway – officially named Bay Gateway last month - will not be completed until later this year but M6 drivers are already benefiting from improved slip roads which are being delivered as part of the project.
Both the new southbound entry slip road and northbound exit slip road are now open - although down to one lane as finishing work continues.

Highways England project manager Peter Hamer said: “Although Bay Gateway is a county council project remodelling the motorway junction so it fully connects with the new road has been a key element of the scheme.
“We would like to thank motorway users for the patience they have shown over the last couple of years with hard shoulder, lane and overnight carriageway closures – as well as local road closures affecting their journeys – and hope they agree with us that the junction improvements are worth the wait.”
