Burger King is coming back to Morecambe.

The former Welcome Cafe and the vacant former Studio Outlet gift shop next to Subway will house the new restaurant.

The Visitor revealed in April that Burger King would be opening a shop at the Arndale.

Last week we also revealed that the Welcome Cafe, which closed on Saturday, will be moving into the former Victoria pub on Victoria Street.

BK used to have a restaurant on Central Drive in Morecambe but it closed several years ago.

The Arndale, built in 1972, is in the midst of a major refurbishment.

Owner NewRiver Retail is working with Morecambe-born designer Wayne Hemingway and his firm Hemingway Design on a “reimagining” of the rundown shopping centre.

This includes new public toilets and artistic decor both inside and out.

A spokesman for the Arndale said: “This arrival is the next step in NewRiver’s £1 million investment plan for the centre bringing more food and drink for visitors and shoppers to enjoy when they spend time here in Morecambe.”

Meanwhile McDonald’s is also hoping to open a new drive-through restaurant near the Festival Market.
