Local firefighters join Japan search team


FIREFIGHTERS from Morecambe, Lancaster and Halton are in Japan helping to search for survivors of Friday’s tsunami and earthquake.

Darren Kyle from Morecambe, Jim Davison from Lancaster and Graham Mossop from Halton are part of the United Kingdom International Search and Rescue (UKISAR) team.

Six firefighters in total from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service left Britain to fly from Manchester Airport to Japan on Saturday afternoon to help with the rescue efforts.

At present the firefighers are searching for live casualties.

Lancashire’s firefighters are part of the UK team, which is made up of 63 firefighters and two search and rescue dogs from Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Kent, West Midlands, Lincolnshire as well as Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Services.
