Lancaster’s historic jewellers prove they are not beaten by Storm Desmond

Owner Anthony Gregg was determined to get the shop back on its feet and even had customers popping in as soon as power was restored in the city.

MP for Lancaster and Fleetwood Cat Smith visited the shop on Chapel Street, as well other businesses in the city centre, to offer advice and help.

Mr Gregg and staff were forced to throw away some of their contents and flooring as the water soaked through the premises.

Watermarks could be seen on the bottom of display cabinets which gave an indication just how high the water got during the flooding.

Mr Gregg said: “Luckily it didn’t get in the windows but it did get up to the jewellery containers at the bottom, a grandfather clock as well other stock was also damaged.

“We have made every effort to open again, we try to maintain a service to our customers as best as we can.

“I was here on Sunday clearing up the shop which has been in my family for generations, and we haven’t seen a flood like this in a very long time.

“Friends and family have been very supportive and the BID have also been to visit.”
