To inspire and encourage more bakers to come forward the Friends of the Library group (FOLL) has organised a ‘Great Library Bake Off’ on Saturday September 12.

The competition will run from 10am-3pm and the library will have special guest judges including Lancaster Mayor Jon Barry.

There will be six entry categories including two for children to enter.

The judging will take place at 2pm and will be followed by a prize-giving.

There is a £1 fee per bake entry which will be given to FOLL to fund further library projects.

The group formed in July 2013 from existing library volunteers and other supporters.

Their role is to support the library as well as to promote their own events.

The Friends committee work very closely with the library staff and are supported by project groups who run various events such as the piano café which provides regular music and homemade cakes as well as a steady extra income for the library.

A spokesman for Friends of the Library said: “The idea for this came on the realisation of how successful and popular the Great British Bake Off series is.

“I thought it would be a good idea for us to get the community involved.

“We are always on the lookout for new members of all ages.” For further details contact [email protected].
