Lancaster St John’s Hospice appeal for Light up a Life

The annual appeal, which raised £24,000 last year, culminates in two special ‘Light up a Life’ services, held on Friday December 4 at the Winter Gardens in Morecambe and Monday December 7 at Kendal parish church.

Designed to ‘give back’ to their supporters, the services will feature Burneside brass band, carols by the hospice choir at Morecambe and the lakes gospel choir at Kendal, a selection of poems read by St John’s Hospice staff and a reading by a member of the community, willing to share their own experiences.

Nurses from the hospice then light candles during a period of reflection, at what can be a difficult time of year for those who have lost a family member of friend.

St John’s Hospice has been supporting patients, families and the wider community in North Lancashire and South Cumbria since 1986.

Serving a population of more than 250,000 people, they are specialists in palliative care for a wide range of life limiting conditions.

Community fundraiser, Sara Brown said: “The care St John’s Hospice provides is free, so by dedicating a light as part of our ‘Light up a Life’ appeal, supporters will be helping thousands of families each year.

“Everyone is welcome to attend the two special events, not just those whose loved ones have been cared for by the hospice and whether one attends a ceremony or just wishes to make a donation, the help received will ensure that the hospice continues to provide free care and support to the local community.
