This year’s annual mayor’s charity do will be a little bit different to your typical formal ball.

Councillor Jon Barry, the first ever Green mayor of Lancaster, will host a night of food and entertainment featuring a quiz about mayors, a self-styled ‘insensitive singer-songwriter’ and Fair Trade wine.

Coun Barry is known as the ‘Mayor on a Bike’ because he likes to cycle to engagements on a bike he calls ‘the mayor mobile’ instead of using a mayoral car.

The function on Friday, December 11 from 7pm to 10pm at Lancaster Town Hall will raise money for St John’s Hospice and children’s wildlife experiences at Leighton Moss.

Food from Filbert’s bakery and music from Spanish guitarist Howard Haigh and satirist Alasdair McKee.

Tickets £12 from Jenny Kay at or by phone on 582065.
