Lancaster nostalgia: Skerton Harriers
A change of sport for local football historian Terry Ainsworth who goes back to January 9 1909 to feature a combined team of Lancaster Primrose, Friends and Skerton Harriers when they met Sutton Harriers and Athletic Club over an eight-and-a-half-mile course through Scotforth to Thurnham, returning along Cockerham Road to the Lancaster Royal Infirmary.
Sutton Harriers, who were former national champions, proved too strong on the day in what was a close finish.
The first five to complete the course for Lancaster were J Hall (Primrose) sixth in 53 minutes and 58 seconds, A Gardner (Friends) 7th, J Ellwood (8th), J Towers (9th ), J Robinson (11th) and T Parkinson (12th).
