A man from the Lancaster area who had been travelling the world has died in Vietnam on new year’s day.

Jake O’Grady, a former Our Lady’s High School pupil, had been backpacking around south east Asia and was due to attend a new year party at a hostel in Hanoi.

It is not yet clear how he died.

Tributes to Mr O’Grady, who had previously been living in Preston and attended Preston’s College, have been posted on his Facebook page.

A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are aware of the death of a British national in Hanoi, Vietnam on January 1 2014.

“We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”
