To help raise money for dementia patients, staff members will be braving a night in a haunted pub.
A group of seven from the Lancaster Hillcroft Nursing Home are determined to last a full evening in what is claimed to be one of the creepiest pubs around – The Royal Station Hotel in Carnforth.
The aim of the evening on Saturday October 29 is to raise money for their residents to have a Christmas they’ll thoroughly enjoy.
Karen Doran is a Care Assistant at Lancaster Hillcroft and has organised the “haunted sit-in.”
She said: “This is for the amazing residents we look after who all suffer from Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
“We want to give them an amazing Christmas and if we raise enough money we would love to get them all a personalised gift.”
With Halloween fast approaching Mrs Doran thought it would be best to take advantage of the spooky season and quickly rallied her team mates to help her arrange a night in a haunted establishment.
After a few weeks of looking around it was decided the Royal Station Hotel would be the best venue for a truly terrifying evening.
No stranger to his pub being sought out for ghost hunts, Glen Pearson, was pleased he could accommodate the group.
He said: “I am more than happy to support them. I’ve heard about a fair few creepy things going on here.”
Mr Pearson and his partner, Maggie Dainty, took over the run-down hotel in April and have been hard at work renovating it. However, with a few rooms still in their original state including the attic, it appears to be the perfect setting for Mrs Doran and her team-mates.
To add to the spooky atmosphere, the group will also be bringing along two mediums.
Mr Pearson said: “We’ve had a ghost hunter visit us since we’ve been here and he’s been coming to the Royal Station Hotel for a number of years, he’s told us that it’s definitely haunted. We’ve also had people tell us that in certain parts of the building they have suddenly felt really cold.”
With reports of ghostly goings on occurring in the bar and in the kitchen and a small room hidden away – believed to have once been a chapel, it would appear that the team will definitely need to keep their wits about them.
