Lancaster and Morecambe events will mark Holocaust Day

The Lancaster and Lakes Jewish Community is working with Faith in Lancaster, More Music, The Dukes, Lancaster City Council and Lancaster Priory Church to remember the Holocaust.

The annual commemoration in Lancaster begins with a “Diversity Tour” on Sunday January 24 where Councillor Rebecca Novell will speak about her work for Lancaster as a City of Sanctuary in the Jewish Rooms, Lancaster University at 11.30am. The tour will then move on to the Dallas Road mosque at 2pm, where there will be the chance to look around and talk to the Imam about the relationships between different community groups in the city.

There will be a film screening of ‘My Nazi Legacy’ at 3.30pm on Wednesday January 27 at The Dukes. The film covers the journey of three men as they journey across Europe and discover their individual histories.

A commemoration event is also being held at Lancaster Castle and The Storey on Thursday January 28 from 6.30pm until 9pm.

It will begin at the castle and then move inside The Storey for reflections and performances, including music written and performed by young people from More Music. The event is open to the public and free. There is no need to book a place, just turn up. Sunday January 31 at 6.30pm ends the week of commemoration with an Interfaith Service at The Priory Church.

Nationally, Holocaust Memorial Day is commemorated on January 27.
