Lancashire Tourism Awards finalists named

The award recognises and rewards individuals who have been nominated by their tourism industry colleagues for their special contribution to tourism in Lancashire.

Five local tourism champions nominated by colleagues for the Tourism Superstar award went forward to the public vote.

They were; John “Gilly” Gillmore, BBC Radio Lancashire presenter; Tina Midgley, Head Merchandiser Northern Print Distribution Blackpool; Elaine Smith, President of Blackpool Civic Trust; Joshua Walker, Fire Beater at Queen Street Mill Burnley; and Michael Williams, Managing Director of Winter Gardens Blackpool. Voting online via the Lancashire Evening Post closed on Sunday October 18. With 2,000 votes now confirmed, the top three have garnered between them over 70 per cent of the votes.

The three finalists are:

• John Gillmore of BBC Radio Lancashire.

• Joshua Walker – Fire Beater at Queen Street Mill, Burnley

• Michael Williams – Managing Director of the Winter Gardens, Blackpool

Ruth Connor, chief executive of Marketing Lancashire said: “All five nominees are tourism superstars in our eyes, fulfilling invaluable roles in our industry and often going out of their way to serve our tourism community and visitors.

“The Tourism Superstar is the only winner to be decided by the general public. The three remaining finalists have captured the imagination and votes of the public with their unique passion for the county tourism offer.”

The winner will be announced at the ceremony on November 5 at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
