Lancashire stops to watch solar eclipse

Lancashire ground to a halt this morning as the county paused to watch the eclipse of the sun.

Cloud obscured a clear view in many areas, but most people got good glimpses of the best eclipse since 1999.

Hundreds of people gathered at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and other locations around the county.

Experts said that in all parts of the UK the eclipse reached at least 83 per cent as the darkness peaked at about 9.35am.

A solar eclipse on this scale is not expected again until 2026.
