Ladies of the stage have volunteered to bare all for a very good cause.
Female members of the Grand’s in-house theatre group the Lancaster Footlights will strip off to mark their forthcoming production of Calendar Girls.
They decided to follow in the footsteps of the original ladies from Rylstone W.I. in Yorkshire, who posed for a calendar to raise funds to buy a settee for visitors to Skipton Hospital.
In the event, they raised much more!
That story was retold in a Hollywood movie and in the subsequent stage play by popular Lancashire playwright Tim Firth.
The Footlights ladies were lucky to obtain a coveted copy of the original calendar, which served as their inspiration!
When the idea of their own calendar was first discussed, Footlights director Emily Jefferson amazingly had no shortage of volunteers, some of whom will also appear in the production.
The Footlights calendar will be officially unveiled by the Mayor of Lancaster, Councillor Sheila Denwood, at a reception on the opening night of the play, Friday October 12.
They will be on sale from then at The Grand.
Proceeds from the calendar will go jointly to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and The Grand Theatre’s New Spaces Appeal.
Calendar Girls shows on October 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 at 7.30pm.
