Join in the Festival of Questions at The Storey in Lancaster

Join Lancaster Arts at The Storey for the final day of Festival of Questions 2016 this Saturday February 20.

Tackling themes of inequality and injustice, Lancaster University’s Professor John Urry, of the Institute for Social Futures will chair a panel discussion entitled ‘Do Young People Stand A Chance in Modern Britain?’

Ahead of Saturday’s discussion, panellist Alvin Carpio spoke with Lancaster University Chancellor and Chair of the UK Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission, the Rt. Hon. Alan Milburn, on the challenges faced by Britain’s millennials. You can follow their conversation in an exclusive interview .

Also taking place on Saturday will be an event which focuses on modern feminism with ‘Is the Internet Good for Feminism?’, with Shoshana Devora, editor at The F- Word, and Caroline Criado-Perez, author of ‘Do It Like A Woman…And Change The World’, whose campaigning for better representation of women in the mainstream media led to her being awarded the Liberty Human Rights Campaigner of the Year (2013), and recognition as one of The Guardian’s People of the Year (2013).

Later in the day curator and theorist Joanna Zylinska, Professor of New Media and Communications at Goldsmiths University, will debate, ‘Will the Earth Outlast the Human?’, alongside Nigel Clark, Andy Jarvis and Bron Szerszynski.

Finally, join Professor Geraint Johnes in conversation with Lancaster and Fleetwood MP Cat Smith for the final event of FestQ 2016: ‘What is the Price of the Powerhouse?’ This event discusses what ‘the devolution agenda’ will mean for small places, such as Lancaster, beyond the ‘key city-regions’, asking what opportunities the Northern Powerhouse could create, and what it might discard. How do we imagine the North West in 2020?
