Southend boss Phil Brown looked for help from an unlikely source ahead of his side’s final day game against Morecambe - TV host Jeremy Kyle.

The outspoken king of resolving domestic conflict gave the Shrimpers a team talk before their game with Jim Bentley’s side.

But it seemed to have little effect as the Essex outfit slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Roots Hall thanks to Andy Fleming’s goal.

The pre-match encounter left some of the Southend players a little star struck.

Defender Ryan Cresswell said: “Not many people can say they have had a team talk from Jeremy Kyle! Well we did today haha bit star struck!! #quality #jeremykyle what a guy.”

It is understood Brown and Kyle have been friends since the ITV host’s days on talkSPORT.

He went on to watch the game from the stands as the Shrimps ended their League 2 campaign on a high.

It is not the first time Brown’s team talks have made headlines, after he gave his Hull City side a dressing down on the pitch at half-time of a 5-1 defeat at Manchester City in December 2008.
