Ex Top Gear presenter and former Lancaster University student James May has tweeted his support after Storm Desmond hit the district over the weekend.

The car enthusiast tweeted: “Lancaster: sorry to hear your problems. I hope the Brown Cow is still functioning.”

His tweet comes after torrential rain caused flooding throughout the city centre, ruining businesses and forcing many people from their homes.

Homes and businesses across the district were also plunged into darkness after the storm caused major floods which led to 55,000 homes being without power.
