Interview with Brian Kennedy performing at The Platform in Morecambe

Legendary Irish singer Brian Kennedy is performing at the Platform on Friday (April 20).

Speaking ahead of the gig, he told the Visitor: “It’s a miracle that I survived my childhood and became a singer really, given where and how my life started, but somehow my voice had other plans and saved me in the end.”

That voice set him on a course that changed his whole life forever.

Brian is first and foremost a live performer and a songwriter.

As he bluntly puts it himself, ‘Music is my lifeblood.’

His constant touring sees him return to Morecambe and The Platform a venue he remembers fondly having played there on four other occasions.

He said: “I love Morecambe and the Platform it’s so unusual and the fans travel from far and wide.”

With an ever growing international fan based acquired over a phenomenal twenty five year career Brian intends to spend 2018 touring and laying down some original material in the studio.

As a fan I found Brian a fascinating person to interview while he drove towards his next gig in Donegal I asked him how he felt when he met his own musical contemporaries and he said of his 1998 meeting with Joni Mitchell how she completely put him at ease

Brian talked quite openly about his recent challenging journey with cancer and he cites singing and performing as the motivation for staying positive.

He said: “The gigs make everything worthwhile, the fans support means the world to me.

“Music is the ultimate healer and my voice has never let me down.”
