A Morecambe couple held their own Christmas lights switch-on at their home for the community to enjoy.

Ian and Diane Clifton who live on Lincoln Close in Westgate have been holding a festive lights display at their home for 18 years, raising thousands for charity in the process.

On Sunday night residents gathered around the home to sing carols and witness the colourful decorations light up around the house. The back garden was also open which was filled with more decorations and a Santa’s grotto.

Ian said: “Some people like football, I like lights. I’ve been doing this since the 1970s.”

The couple have raised £60,000 over 18 years for Derian House, Children’s Hospice. Sunday’s event added a further £370. Ian, who is 70, wanted to raise money to help children in need.
