Housing plans thrown out

PLANS for a new development of affordable houses in Carnforth have been rejected.

Lancaster City Councillors denied outline planning permission for the 16-home proposal on Back Lane at a meeting on March 5.

A Mr and Mrs Wallbank had wanted to turn the overgrown grassland into eight two bedroom apartments, four four bedroom townhouses and four three bedroom townhouses.

Carnforth Town Council objected to the proposal as it had too many three and four bedroom properties, rather than the one and two bedroom properties a city council housing survey said the district needs.

Nine letters of objection were also lodged with the local authority.

Grievances mentioned by residents included neighbouring streets possibly being used as a cut-through for pedestrians, increased traffic and noise and possible parking issues as a result of the development.
