Hot Roddy comes to town

THE former front man of rock band Idlewild will be the first big name solo artist to play Morecambe’s new live music venue in the West End.

Roddy Woomble will perform at More Music’s base The Hothouse on Devonshire Road this Thursday (November 22) from 8pm.

Roddy will perform songs from his folk-influenced solo albums, supported by The Lakeland Fiddlers and Bill Lloyd.

Bill, also known as Banjo Billy, is well known as a live performer in Cumbria, the Borders and North West England both as a soloist and with The Wildwood Band.

His material ranges from old-time Appalachian dance music and songs to traditional Irish ballads, country rock , bluegrass, traditional European dance music and his own songs.

The Lakeland Fiddlers are a community band who appear regularly at Cumbrian festivals and fairs as well as larger venues including The Sage in Gateshead.

During his time with Idlewild, Roddy notched up a string of hits including the 2002 Top 10 smash You Held the World in Your Arms.
