AN academic from Over Kellet believes the death of his wife was due to management incompetence at our local hospitals trust.
Dr Phil Hegarty campaigned against the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust (UHMBT) following the death of Penny Hegarty in June 2007.
A mum-of-two and grandmother-of-five, Mrs Hegarty had been misdiagnosed with arthritis and osteoporosis at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
But her back pain was later found to be recurring cancer, which proved terminal.
Dr Hegarty, a psychologist, blamed poor management systems at the Trust.
Mrs Hegarty, 62, had previously been given the all clear from breast cancer.
Her husband’s campaign was raised in the Commons last Wednesday by David Morris, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale, during Prime Minister’s Question Time.
Mr Morris challenged Mr Cameron to “assure Dr Hegarty and all of my constituents that work to improve management will continue and that this Trust will be turned around.”
Mr Cameron said: “It is being turned around, but, that work needs to be undertaken with all speed.”
