THE director of a local charity has spoken out to remind people that Christmas isn’t merry for everyone – but there is always someone on hand to listen.
David Marshall, who heads Lancaster and District Samaritans, said: “Christmas and New Year can be a happy time for many people – they have time off work, see family and friends, and generally enjoy the feeling of goodwill at this time of year.
“But if anyone is feeling depressed, lonely, or fed up with being bombarded with images of ‘the perfect Christmas’ in the face of their own less-than-perfect life, it can be a really hard time.
“Plenty of people are dealing with difficult issues – illness, unemployment, loss of some kind – and at Christmas, it can feel as if you’re the only person not having fun.
“I want to remind everyone that they are not alone.”
