Health Minister Dr. Daniel Poulter MP officially opened the new same day health service in Morecambe.

Morecambe and Lunesdale MP David Morris who accompanied the Minister said: “The same day service will be an asset to the community.

“It means that patients who have a minor injury or illness will not need to travel to Lancaster to see a clinician.

“They will be able to telephone the centre to book an appointment and be seen on the same day.”

The centre which is a commissioned service setup by Coastal Care Ltd will deal with patients who have a minor illness or minor injury on an appointments based system.

Earlier in the day, the Minister visited the new Heysham Health Centre which houses Strawberry Gardens Medical Centre and Coastal Medical Centre as well as a range of community services.

Dr. Poulter was given a guided tour by Robert Eaves from the Rushcliffe Group and Dr. Alex Gaw, Chair of Lancashire North Clinical Commissioning Group and GP at Coastal Medical Group.

During the tour, the Minister talked to some of the staff based within the centre.
